About this event

Registration fees

Registration: $25 per car

Adventure Scavenger Roadrally; The South Mountain Edition is designed to provide an scenic drive through the countryside while enjoying a Scavenger Hunt. This “Roadrally” is a social event and is not based on accurate time and distance – in fact, each team picks their own route and is able to maximize points the way that suits each team the best. Scoring is based on the ability of the team to use clues to find target locations, while leaving enough time to finding their own way to the finish location in the allotted time frame. Each team will be provided with a packet of rules and instructions. There will be two classes, Polaroid and Instagram. The Polaroid class will get instructions on how to turn in there pictures for scoring. If your team chooses the Instagram class. There will be instructions on how to post pictures on instagram to mark way-points and collect points. Someone on your team needs an instagram account for your team to get points! This is a great opportunity to get younger family members involved in a driving activity. This event will take place rain or shine. Only extreme weather conditions warrant cancellation.

A Road Rally is not a race! OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS. The roads are challenging, sharp curves, steep climbs, small towns with pedestrians and wildlife crossings all combined with an unknown route. The driver and navigator must work together to stay alert while looking for clues. Speed does not improve the score. Bring water for the team, and fuel up when you can there isn’t any sweep car…it’s up to the team to make it back

EVENT OVERVIEW

This is a GTA/Social Road Rally. There are no points towards any championship.

There are many variations of Road Rally—this is a “social” rally, which does not require participants to track time and accurate distance. Instead, each vehicle has a navigator who will read directions and figure out the best route, and the driver will follow the instructions. The goal is to drive and find the best route to maximize points. At the end of the rally, there will be a small award ceremony where winners will be announced.

The intention is to have a pleasant Sunday drive, following the speed limits and all local laws. Enjoy yourself, enjoy the view and spot some random stuff.

There will be 2 classes

  1. Instagram class
  2. Polaroid class

Additional Notes of Importance:

  • The official instructions will be provided at the check-in at on-site registration; you get to determine your own route.
  • Each team should have a pencil or pen (and perhaps a clip board) to record stuff and things at this event.
  • Vehicles will depart the start point at after the driver meeting.
  • Each team will need an Instagram account for Instagram class.
  • Polaroid Class needs there own camera and film
  • There will be no checkpoints along the route to verify that participants are on the correct route.
  • Warning: don’t play follow the leader! Or do, the other team could be doing something dumb.
  • Each car/team will need a mascot that must be included in all photographs/Instagram posts of way-points/checkpoints for scoring purposes
  • Mascot should be a handheld item to represent the team
  • This is NOT a race; ALL traffic laws must be followed.
  • Speeding ticket will disqualify you from this event.

REQUIREMENTS

RUN PROCEDURE / SCHEDULE
We will run two sessions of competition, a morning session and an afternoon session, likely with course changes between sessions.

We will run two groups of competitors, Group A and Group B. Groups will be comprised of complete car classes. Groups will be organized to have the same number of drivers, or as close the same number of drivers as possible.

The grid sheet outlining which classes are in each group will be posted at registration.

Drivers will be gridded within their class in reverse order of which they registered. This means the earlier you register, the better your starting position.

CAR/DRIVER LIMITS
There will be a maximum of two drivers per car per run group.

METHOD OF TIMING
Our events will be electronically timed with pneumatic hose triggers at start and finish.  Times are reported and recorded to the thousandth of a second.

PENALTIES
A two (2) second penalty will be charged for each upright cone knocked down or displaced, including those after the finish.

A ten (10) second penalty will be charged for missing a gate or going around an upright cone the wrong way.

In the case of a DNF or a jump start, a bogey time will be awarded for that run. That bogey time will be calculated by using the slowest raw time, per class, per run group, plus twenty (20) seconds.

SCORING
Each driver will be scored on his/her total accumulated time for all official runs, including penalties.

MECHANICAL FAILURE
One (1) 15-minute mechanical break (referred to as a “mechanical”) may be taken per event to make necessary repairs.

VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION
All national SCCA RallyCross classes will be recognized:

SR SF SA
PR PF PA
MR MF MA
C2 C4 X

Exhibition (X) class may be used when more than 2 drivers are sharing a car and you cannot go up a class, or if 2 drivers wish to be in opposite groups. X class cars are not scored and therefore are not eligible for season points.

In addition to vehicle eligibility as defined in the 2024 RallyCross rulebook, drivers wishing to compete in a truck, SUV, or crossover must reference the rollover rating found on the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings ). If your specific vehicle is not listed, a vehicle from that same production run a.k.a. “generation”, may be referenced. Vehicles with a rollover risk greater than 17% are barred from entry. Trucks, SUVS, and crossovers not rollover rated on the NHTSA website are also barred from entry. Any suspension modifications that raise the height of any given vehicle will be reviewed for entry eligibility by the Safety Steward. Final discretion of eligibility (special exemption or exclusion) will be ultimately decided by the Safety Steward or program chairs

VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION / CAR NUMBERS
A driver will choose his/her one, two or three digit number at registration. It is highly recommended numbers be approximately 8” high and of a contrasting color. Class lettering is recommended to be approximately 4” high and also of contrasting color.

A leading “0” is no longer permitted.

Helmets must be Snell 2010 or newer (M2010 or SA2010).

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
