Event Calendar

Susquehanna Region of the SCCA typically begins our season at the end of March and holds events through the end of October, but the club meets monthly year-round to continue planning and enhancing our programs. We invite you, not only to attend the adrenaline-laden events, but also to join us for dinner and a drink each month for member meetings.

You’ll find the details for all of these (and on occasion, more) in the calendar below. We look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

2019 Autocross Event #10 @ Spooky Nook
Oct 6 all-day

Have you ever heard of a Match Tour before? Make sure to read all about it here.

For Susquehanna Region’s event, we’re going to run it like this:

Points events will be Saturday AM, Saturday PM, and Sunday AM events (for a total of THREE more points events for the year!)

Saturday will be two sessions with 3 runs each. We’ll take your fastest time with the morning runs, and add it to your fastest time in the afternoon to determine the overall winners for Saturday.

Sunday we are going to do a single 4-run session in the morning to determine the challenge round qualifiers. The challenge round on Sunday afternoon will be be broken out PER HEAT into 1st-8th in PAX are the “Top Dogs”, 9th-16th in PAX are the “Under Dogs”, and everyone else who participates in all three points events will be entered into a drawing to be in the lucky dog challenge. So we’ll have a total of 16 Top Dogs, 16 Under Dogs, and 16 Lucky Dogs. From there, each grouping of racers will compete in a single elimination round to determine the overall winners of the event!

Remember – to participate in all of the fun, you have to sign up for the entire weekend, which is why we’re opening Weekend Registration up first to allow everyone guaranteed spots for both days.

Regardless of which numbers you use, make sure to place them on your car before going through tech inspection. The Tech Chief and/or Solo Chair have final say in determining whether identification is appropriate.

Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally @ Shermans Dale, PA
Sep 24 @ 8:00 am – 8:00 pm

About this event

Registration fees

Registration: $45 per car

Inspired by the nationally-known (but in no way affiliated) Lemons Rally, the Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally is designed to provide an enjoyable drive through the countryside while conducting a Scavenger Hunt. This “Rally” is a social event and is not based on accurate time and distance – in fact, each team picks their own route to maximize points the way that suits each team the best. Scoring is based on the ability of the team to use clues to find target locations, while leaving enough time to find their own way to back to the start point in the allotted time frame. Each team will be provided with a packet with rules and instructions on how to post pictures on instagram to mark way-points and collect points. Someone on your team needs an instagram account for your team to get points! This is a great opportunity to get younger family members involved in a driving activity. This event will take place rain or shine. Only extreme weather conditions warrant cancellation.

A Road Rally is not a race! OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS. The roads are challenging, sharp curves, steep climbs and wildlife crossings all combined with an unknown route. The driver and navigator must work together to stay alert while looking for clues. Speed does not improve the score. Bring water for the team, and fuel up when you can there isn’t any sweep car…it’s up to the team to make it back

EVENT OVERVIEW

This is a GTA/Social Road Rally. There are no points towards any championship.

There are many variations of Road Rally—this is a “social” rally, which does not require participants to track time and accurate distance. Instead, each vehicle has a navigator who will read directions and figure out the best route, and the driver will follow the instructions. The goal is to drive and find the best route to maximize points. At the end of the rally, there will be a small award ceremony where winners will be announced.

The intention is to have a pleasant Saturday drive, following the speed limits and all local laws. Enjoy yourself, enjoy the view and spot some random stuff

Additional Notes of Importance:

  • The official instructions will be provided at the check-in at on-site registration; you get to determine your own route.
  • Each team should have a pencil or pen (and perhaps a clip board) to record stuff and things at this event.
  • Vehicles will depart the start point at after the driver meeting.
  • Each team will need an Instagram account
  • There will be no checkpoints along the route to verify that participants are on the correct route.
  • Warning: don’t play follow the leader! Or do, the other team could be doing something dumb.
  • Each car/team will need a mascot that must be included in all photographs/Instagram posts of way-points/checkpoints for scoring purposes
  • Mascot should be a handheld item to represent the team
  • Each team should bring a Hot Wheels or Matchbox car for the judges (it could help your score).
  • This is NOT a race; ALL traffic laws must be followed.
  • Speeding ticket will disqualify you from this event.

REQUIREMENTS

You must show your valid driver’s license. If you are not an SCCA member, a weekend membership form must be completed via MotorsportReg.com for $15. Other team members/navigators that are not SCCA members will need to fill out a trial membership form on site

Driver qualifications:

  1. A valid driver’s license and a car
  2. Capable of listening to the navigator or team or pack of wolves and remembering what they were told about why they are driving around South Central PA
  3. “Team” is used loosely, you could fly solo but that is extra dumb

Team qualifications:

  1. Some organizational ability (to handle the paperwork and keep track of route instructions)
  2. Not prone to motion sickness while reading in the car (if you do get motion sick, taking medicine prior to the event often allows you to still enjoy the event)

Notes:

  1. Number of passengers in the vehicle must not exceed the legal passenger capacity for the vehicle.

Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally, Part 2: Revenge of the Stone Fruit @ Hickory Bridge Restaurant
Apr 1 @ 9:30 am – 6:00 pm

Inspired by the nationally-known (but in no way affiliated) Lemons Rally, the Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally, Part II Revenge of the Stone Fruit is designed to provide an enjoyable drive through the countryside while conducting a Scavenger Hunt. This “Rally” is a social event and is not based on accurate time and distance – in fact, each team picks their own route to maximize points the way that suits each team the best. Scoring is based on the ability of the team to use clues to find target locations, while leaving enough time to finding their own way to the finish location in the allotted time frame.

We will make every effort to determine if the number of heats will be increased prior to the event, but most likely the decision to add a heat will not be made until the day of the event, after all entries/cancellations have been processed, and total number of entrants or classes is counted.

We plan to give each entrant four (4) runs. Novice class will run in the same heat with their corresponding Open Class.

NUMBERS / CLASS IDENTIFICATION

Entrants must provide their own car numbers and class identification. Download printable numbers and class letters>>

The driver is responsible for determining the car’s classification. View a quick-guide for car class allowances>>

Car numbers and class information must be displayed on both sides of their car during competition runs. Numbers and letters conforming to Section 3.7 of the SCCA Solo Rulebook are highly recommended (8” high numbers, 4” high class identification). In the event that your vehicle already has painted or other permanent numbers that do not reflect your number and/or class, they must be covered or crossed out. Regardless of which numbers you use, make sure to place them on your car before going through tech inspection. The Tech Chief and/or Solo Chair have final say in determining whether identification is appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS

You must show your valid driver’s license. If you are not an SCCA member, you will be required to buy a $15 Weekend Membership. Only buy one membership for the weekend. It is good for both AM and PM events. Check your email for a member number to use on the additional weekend event entry, or email registration@scca-susq.com if you do not receive one.

All competitors and spectators must sign the insurance waiver and wear helmets while on course. View helmet certification requirements>>

Speed is limited to 5 MPH in the pits and the surrounding areas. No tire warm ups will be permitted. Your car must pass our technical inspection in order to compete. You are strongly advised to drive slowly/conservatively on public roads surrounding the event.

EVENT TIMETABLE

AFTERNOON SESSION TIMELINE DEPENDS ON ENDING OF MORNING SESSION AND CHECK IN OF ALL PRE-REGISTERED DRIVERS, so it is flexible.

Please note that none of these times are guaranteed, but just estimates.  Times may change due to the outcome of the morning event.  Make sure to plan ahead and arrive earlier rather than later in the morning. Depending on the total number of entries for the AM event, this suggested time schedule may change. In that event, we will post on our Facebook group and email all pre-registered competitors with revised information.

MORNING EVENT TIMETABLE
NOTE: MORNING SESSION – STARTS EARLIER THAN USUAL. ARRIVE ON TIME! Call a friend or organizer if you have an emergency. We must have time to finalize registration before the runs start and can not take very late entrants, even if you have pre-registered.

  • 7:00AM: Suggested arrival time
  • 7:00AM: Course open for walking
  • 7:00AM: Tech & Registration open
  • 7:30AM: Novice Walk Through at the start line
  • 8:00AM: Tech and Registration close
  • 8:15AM: Driver’s meeting
  • 8:30AM: First car off

Depending on how the AM schedule is going, we may take a short break after the AM event is over (30 minutes to 1 hour) and the PM event will take place after the break.  Make sure you bring something to eat for lunch, as the break in between events is not guaranteed.
