Event Calendar

Susquehanna Region of the SCCA typically begins our season at the end of March and holds events through the end of October, but the club meets monthly year-round to continue planning and enhancing our programs. We invite you, not only to attend the adrenaline-laden events, but also to join us for dinner and a drink each month for member meetings.

You’ll find the details for all of these (and on occasion, more) in the calendar below. We look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

2018 RallyCross Event #1 @ Farm Show, Elmerton Lot
Apr 22 @ 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

GENERAL INFORMATION

The 2018 Susquehanna SCCA RallyCross sponsored by Triton Automotive will be run according to the SCCA RallyCross National Rules as shown on the SCCA website at SCCA.com.

We will accept a maximum of 40 entries. We will run two sessions of competition, a morning session and an afternoon session, likely with course changes between sessions. We will run two groups of competitors, Group A and Group B. Groups will be comprised of complete car classes. Groups will be organized to have the same number of drivers, or as close the same number of drivers as possible. The grid sheet outlining which classes are in each group will be posted at registration. Drivers will be gridded within their class in reverse order of which they registered. This means the earlier you register, the better your starting position.

All national SCCA RallyCross classes will be recognized.

  • Stock Rear Wheel Drive (SR)
  • Stock Front Wheel Drive (SF)
  • Stock All Wheel Drive (SA)
  • Prepared Rear Wheel Drive (PR)
  • Prepared Front Wheel Drive (PF)
  • Prepared All Wheel Drive (PA)
  • Modified Rear Wheel Drive (MR)
  • Modified Front Wheel Drive (MF)
  • Modified All Wheel Drive (MA)
  • Open Two Wheel Drive (O2)
  • Open All Wheel Drive (O4)
  • Exhibition (X)

Exhibition (X) class may be used when more than 2 drivers are sharing a car and you cannot go up a class, or if 2 drivers wish to be in opposite groups. X class cars are not scored and therefore are not eligible for season points.

Drivers wishing to compete in one of the Open classes must contact an dministrator prior to registering to arrange a technical inspection.

In addition to vehicle eligibility as defined in the 2018 RX rulebook, drivers wishing to compete in a truck must demonstrate their vehicle is at least as wide as it is tall to be elegible. No SUVs or Jeeps will be allowed.

One 15 minute mechanical break (referred to as a “mechanical”) may be taken per event to make necessary repairs. Drivers taking a mechanical must notify the stage captain immediately. Another vehicle may be substituted for vehicles not able to be repaired; provided it has passed tech inspection, and meets the class rules.  If a vehicle is unable to safely complete the course during competition and is red flagged, at the chair’s discretion, a rerun may be granted if the vehicle is repaired within the 15 minute mechanical.

Safety

A 10 MPH speed limit will be strictly enforced for all areas of the venue except when on the actual competition course. Any individual found to be driving unsafely or at excessive speeds may be disqualified at the discretion of the organizers without option to appeal.

Event Schedule

  • Suggested arrival time: 7:30-8AM
  • Registration & Tech opens at 8AM
  • Registration & Tech close at 9:10 AM
  • Driver’s meeting: 9:15AM
  • First car off: 10AM
  • Finish and cleanup: 4:00PM

Technical Inspection and Helmets

The car will be inspected to verify that it is in proper working order, and has a legible registered entrant number on each side of the car. Items to be inspected may include but are not limited to: seat belts, seats, brakes, wheel bearings, ball joints, lug nuts, throttle return, battery tie-down, and steering. No major fluid leaks will be allowed.  Helmets must be Snell 2005 or newer. Loaner helmets will be available.

Entries per car

There will be a maximum of two drivers per car per run group.

Age Requirements

A competitor must be a minimum of 16 years old and those under 18 must have a properly executed SCCA minor waiver.

License Requirements

A competitor must possess a valid driver’s license or driving permit and be prepared to show it at registration. If a driving permit requires a parent/legal guardian, that person or an approved instructor must be present in the vehicle. Competitors and Passengers Must be SCCA Members. SCCA Weekend Memberships will be available at registration at a cost of $15.00.

Car Numbering & Classing

A driver will choose his/her one, two or three digit number at registration. Numbers and class are to be clearly displayed on each side of the car. Numbers are to be applied prior to going through tech inspection. It is highly recommended numbers be approximately 8” high and of a contrasting color. Class lettering is recommended to be approximately 4” high and also of contrasting color.

Method of Timing

Our events will be electronically timed with pneumatic hose triggers at start and finish. Times are reported and recorded to the thousandth of a second. If there is a failure in the timing process, which prevents the accurate recording of a competitor’s time, a rerun will be granted.  Alternate timing methods may be implemented in the event of a systematic timing failure.

Scoring

Each driver will be scored on his/her total accumulated time for all official runs, including penalties.

Penalties

  1. A two (2) second penalty will be charged for each upright cone knocked down or displaced, including those after the finish.
  2. A ten (10) second penalty will be charged for missing a gate or going around a cone the wrong way.
  3. In the case of a DNF or a jump start, a bogey time will be awarded for that run. That bogey time will be calculated by using the slowest raw time, per class, per run group, plus fifteen (15) seconds.
  4. Drivers are ultimately responsible for ensuring they receive the correct number of runs per session. Any runs not taken will be forfeited and scored as a DNF.

2017 Championship Points

All classes (except “Exhibition”) will be eligible for championship points.  Drivers who are the only competitor in their class must complete all runs of the event to earn points.  Drivers must earn at least 10 points in a single class to be eligible to win a championship award. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers at the annual year-end Awards Banquet.

Series points will be awarded as such:

  • 5 points for first place
  • 3 points for second place
  • 1 point for third place

In the case of a tie, the driver with the most first place finishes will be considered the champion. If the tie persists, the driver with the fewest cone penalties for the year will be considered the champion.

Tire Rack Street Survival! @ Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center
Nov 3 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.

It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!

Three parents, including Scott Goodyear, former Indy Car Champion, share their perspectives in this video.

Vehicles with modifications that alter the center of gravity (i.e. lift kits) are not acceptable.

High Center of Gravity Vehicles (HCGs) such as SUVs, SAVs, Trucks, Jeep-type vehicles, and Minivans will need to be verified.  The older HCGs without electronic stability control (not just the electronic traction control) will not be accepted.

HCG vehicles may still be limited with respect to the exercises in which they are allowed to participate based on local venue conditions.

Please look up the HCG vehicle safety score. You can research the safety ratings that a vehicle has received at www.edmunds.com  Input the vehicle and year and look at the safety rating in the upper right corner of the web page.

This review is for HCG vehicles only. Passenger cars do not need to be reviewed.

Any vehicle with a listing of 3 stars or more out of 5 in the Roll Over test will be allowed to participate in our class. We are concerned about the Roll Over test on the HCG only. We are not concerned about the crash test ratings.

Any HCG vehicle listed as “not tested” in the Roll Over test will not be allowed to participate.

EVENT TIME TABLE:

8:00am – Registration opens
9:00am – Registration closes
9:30am – Welcome meeting – Class/Course exercises begin

2020 Rallycross Event #2 @ Farm Show, Elmerton Lot
Sep 26 @ 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Hello all of my dirty compadres! I hope that everyone has had a chance to clean the dust out of their cars, clothes, shoes and those hard to teach areas of their bodies. After that last event most of us are still coughing up dirt. It may not seem close, but our next event is approaching quickly as we have our next event scheduled for September 26th at the Farm Show lot. I hope everyone has brushed up on their rain dance skills so that we can get some moisture into the ground for this event to avoid the massive dust plumes of the last event. As the year goes on I want you all to know that we are still working hard on the development of the new venue that should really help cut down on the dust issues (trees really help stop the flow). We’re looking to have that venue up and operational for a RallySprint before the end of this year, so we will be asking for course workers for that event as we get closer. I personally am looking forward to being able to unveil that venue for both RallySprint and RallyCross for next year so that we can have a full season of one of a kind racing and excitement. Once again, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for making our program fun and exciting and I look forward to seeing you in September.

2020 Rallycross Event #3 @ Farm Show Complex
Oct 24 @ 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

This will be our final (at least at this point in time) event for the season.  I know that sounds weird since we only had 2 events before this one due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  So, this one will be a little different.  We decided that since 2020 has been such a train-wreck and has put many individuals and families through some very difficult times, we would make this event a charity event to benefit local families and individuals by joining up with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.  All of the profits from the event and all of the money collected from the “silliness” portion will be donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.  If we manage to fill up registration to capacity, we will raise at least $1000 for the charity, but I don’t feel that is enough and I would like to see us raise closer to $3000.  The food bank has decided to no longer accept canned goods donations for a few reasons, some due to COVID-19 and some not, but they informed me that for every $1 raised they can purchase $6 in food from their distributors.  So, if we manage to raise $3000, that equals $18,000 in food and that will feed a lot of deserving families for the upcoming holidays.

Since it is a week before Halloween we will be holding a “costume” contest with a sweet prize for the best vehicle costume as well as the best human costume.

Now back to the rest of the event, the morning will be a normal points event and we will have 3 runs.  After that we will proceed with the “silliness” portion of the day.  If time allows, we will be offering “fun runs” at the end of the day for $1 per run.  This will be your opportunity to swap vehicles or try out new techniques.

The rules for the non-competition portion of the day are as follows:

  • The purchases will be blind and not known to any competitor, unless you tell them.
  • You will hand the “cashier” your slip with the vehicle number and the amount of penalties/reversals on it. Once verified, the money will go into a sealed box and the “cashier” will tally the penalties/reversals to the appropriate vehicle.
  • We will provide slips of paper to write the vehicle number on, you must provide your own pen/pencil/crayon/marker.
  • You may purchase cone penalties against ANY competitor in ANY class for $1 per cone.
  • You may purchase cone penalty reversals for $2 per cone.
  • You will not be allowed to receive a “negative” cone penalty due to purchasing cone reversals.
  • Cone penalties/reversals may only be purchased at 2 specific times, once in the morning and once at lunch time.
  • No purchases will be allowed after these times with no exceptions!
  • You may “pre-load” monies to use through MSR when you pre-register and the “cashier” will have a record of you balance. You may also make just a simple donation at the same time.
  • The day of purchases must be cash, due to not having the ease of accepting credit cards, and change will not be available.
  • A “trophy” (TBD) will be awarded to the competitor with the highest dollar amount assigned to their vehicle number.

The rules for the costume contest are as follows:

  • All costumes, whether on a vehicle or person, must be family friendly as well as safe.
  • If at any point during the competition the “costume” becomes a safety issue, you will be given 10 minutes to remove the unsafe portion before being allowed to resume competition.
  • At the end of the day 2 (two) winners will be picked based on originality and flair.
  • There will be a winner with the best vehicle theme and a winner with the best personal theme.
  • The winners will receive a (rather) large bag of candy. (Approximately 5-6 pounds)

In addition to vehicle eligibility as defined in the 2021 RallyCross rulebook, drivers wishing to compete in a truck, SUV, or crossover must reference the rollover rating found on the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings ). If your specific vehicle is not listed, a vehicle from that same production run a.k.a. “generation”, may be referenced. Vehicles with a rollover risk greater than 17% are barred from entry. Trucks, SUVS, and crossovers not rollover rated on the NHTSA website are also barred from entry. Any suspension modifications that raise the height of any given vehicle will be reviewed for entry eligibility by the Safety Steward. Final discretion of eligibility (special exemption or exclusion) will be ultimately decided by the Safety Steward or program chairs.

Helmets must be Snell 2005 (M2005 or SA2005) or newer.
